Independence Day

It is completely sunny, with no rain in sight.
The temperature is around 70, which doesn't please my parents because they want "summer". The lack of the humidity and heat is perfectly fine with me!

To those of you in the States, Happy 4th of July!
American Independence since 1776 ... and two days? The Second Continental Congress actually resolved to declare independence from Great Britain on July 2nd, so why we celebrate it on the fourth is lost to me. I hope everyone has a lovely day BBQ-ing with family and friends, camping, sitting bonfires, and/or watching the fireworks. My town did theirs last night, and I was surprised at the display ... the more dazzle, the better :).

I went to cross-country practice this morning. My Coach looked around at the ten of us who showed up, smiling. "Today is a distance run, but we're going to take it easy. There's two choices: five miles or seven miles?" HA! Easy?! I hung my head, bemused ... yet I chose the latter. The five mile run would take the same route that I normally run on my own, so I wanted to change it up. Besides, what's the harm of two extra miles?
The harm: bloody toes, blisters, and aching knees.
It was rough but I managed because my pace was slow to stay with my friends Tucker and Kristen. At the 3.5 mile point, we had to descend this ungodly steep, winding road for a mile, and that took a toll on my legs. I soaked my feet and clipped my toenails when I returned home, and I just hope my sneakers weren't contributing to the toe bleeding -- I spent $80 on those dang Asics! Running on roads is probably going to cause my bones to waste away from arthritis and friction by the time I'm twenty. Yet I made it again, I know I can run seven miles.

I'm going to a grad party on the lake later, and then perhaps one tomorrow afternoon. I feel sort of bad I won't be giving them cash because I'm completely broke, but I did spend a lot of time making chipper little cards! Monday I'm working for my town recreation department again, doing games and activities at a park, and then teaching swim lessons Tuesday and Thursday. Oh the joys of shrieking, energized, clingy children -- I'm sure that will be an adventure.

Until then, have a glorious weekend :D

I hope you are having an absolutely beautiful 4th of July dear :) And yikes, the run sounds like it took its toll, but a 7 mile run is still pretty amazing!

You say 20 like it's old... Hmpf, I'll be 20 this winter and I'm having a slight (huge) crisis over it...

Awwe, I'm proud of you for pushing it and running 7 miles! Seriously, that is quite an accomplishment, girl! :) And don't worry, I think you'll live to see twenty without being a hunchback ;)

Seven miles sounds pretty intense--but it's great you can run that far cross country! I'm sure you'll still be perfectly healthy at 20.

Have fun at the grad parties (:

It sounds like the weather was perfect! Our weather was rather dreary :/

Oh, no! Seven miles?! I would die. I hope your feet are all better now, dear!

It's only been around 70 for the past week here too, although I haven't heard what the temperature is today. It looks rather sunny, actually....

In history two years ago we were taught that since it was 1776 and communication was so dang slow, no one even found out that it was signed until the Fourth, so I guess that's why haha.

Ah! Seven miles? That's definitely a daunting task, but you made it :D And as long as you aren't on hard pavement or anything, it seems like running would make you stronger by age 20! Don't worry :)

Have fun at the grad parties, I'm sure they'll appreciate your cards :D And it sounds like you're going to have a busy week with the little kids, haha! I hope it all goes fantabulously!

I would never be able to do that!

(And yes, I have returned from the grave [couch])

Yuck, I remember a few years ago I go an ingrown toenail from pairs skating, and never really ran since...anyway, I hope you have fun at the grad party! Haha, I've been Counseling for this pre-k and k babysitting camp called 'Spots for Tots', so I know that feeling of screaming kids. But they're cute. Dear, you MUST give them that!

Actually, I'm more so situated in the Adirondack region :P. Like, Vermont is a mere 20-30 minutes away. I ventured out towards Buffalo for my 4th of July festivities. Definitely give Dead Like Me a chance :), it's good. Youtube it or something if you're bored one day. Aren says it's on CW, but I barely ever catch up with tv, except for House. I opt for the dvds.
Your tolerance post before was really insightful, I've wondered that myself. Tolerance is a tricky thing. We may feel as though we're incredibly accepting, but then again it's hard to distinguish true dislike from casual humor from people. It's tricky.

Mmmm.. I might have to attempt that little baguette recipe you put in at the end. I can feel my stomach start to growl, hahah.
Oh man, that run sounds brutal. I can't imagine doing that, atleast not easily, haha. I take a 2 mile walk with my dog daily, but 7 miles, running, that's impressive. MAJOR kudos to you my dear.
I hope the graduation party's a blastt, I can't wait to hear about it. Good luck with those children :).

Yikes! I remember this day and every time on my way to Harriet Hollister or up to Eamon's or somwhere (ha not that I'm there that often!) I CRINGE!! You deffinitely kicked ass. No doubt about it. I would kill for your endurance. As I recall haha when I was being the slow poke behind you Tucker called you a "Cougar" cause you were so amazing hahah!! Love you girl <3
